Terry Hall DJ set

In between touring commitments with The Specials and some solo projects, Terry Hall takes his own collection of CDs to the DJ booths of venues across the country to give audiences a chance to hear the songs he loves.

So what can you expect from a Terry Hall DJ set?

Terry Hall DJ set posterFirst of all, let’s be clear about what not to expect. Don’t expect Terry Hall to play any Terry Hall records.

On a BBC 6 Music interview with Matt Everitt in 2014 he likened the scenario to being invited round to Robert De Niro’s house, and then asking to watch Taxi Driver. Fair point.

What you will hear are some great tunes hand-picked by the man himself. From early reggae and ska to pop, funk, soul and even disco; Terry’s musical tastes are eclectic to say the least.

This was confirmed when he did five Sunday afternoon sessions as guest DJ on 6 Music in early 2014. The response from listeners was phenomenal. Terry Hall was a natural in the radio studio environment.

Attend one of his DJ sets and expect to hear the likes of David Bowie, Toots & The Maytals, The Las, The Jackson 5, Max Romeo, Althea & Donna, Talking Heads, and much more. He closed one set in Stoke-on-Trent with the Zorba’s Dance Greek anthem. And it was brilliant.

It’s all about fantastic music, but going to one of Terry Hall’s DJ sets is also a great opportunity for getting an autograph or photo with the man himself – something that’s proved a challenge at a Specials’ gig over the years.
